Fortune and Fame – Sharon Shinn

Since the Twelve Houses series finished expanding on each of the core group’s love lives, Ms Shinn has moved on to the story of a peripheral character. Wen was one of the King’s Riders: she has left the service of the royal family in grief and guilt over not dying at her assassinated king’s side.

She eventually takes on the job of captain of the guard for the Fortunalt house, where she proceeds to train the guards, fall in love with the young ruler’s regent, and overall go through routine adventures of this series’ type.

I probably wouldn’t re-read it, but it’s fun enough in the vein of the earlier books.
