Bad Traffic, an Inspector Jian novel – Simon Lewis

This was fun.  The story follows a police inspector, Jian, from mainland China who drops everything and comes to England following a single panicked call from his daughter who’s studying there.

He’s an interesting character, more so because not 100% likable.   The inspector does not seem like he’d be that nice a guy on his home turf. Perhaps a little too comfortable with bribes and the cruelty of his usual system.

Also nice to see England from the point of view of an allophone.

I’d read another Jian book… too bad the library system seems to have nothing else.
