Well, When the Tide Rises by David Drake is a tad disappointing. You still have to appreciate the research and continuity-checking that have clearly gone into it – it’s a non-stop exercize in unfurling booms and four-inch plasma cannons, and faintly absurd British-aristo vernacular. Don’t confuse David Drake with David Weber – this is not the Honor Harrington author.
I would far, far prefer to read a collaboration by Connie Willis and Tanya Huff – for the Brit-Twits join the Royal Space Navy. Or, just stick with Elizabeth Moon.
