The City & the City – China Miéville

The City & the City

The City &  the City is the first book I’ve read by Mr China Miéville, and it’s quite something.

It’s two cops, two parallel worlds, political/social commentary.  There are somehow two worlds that meet in one city, and a murder happens in one or perhaps the other.  The dedicated cop breaks all sorts of boundaries in trying to find out what’s happening.

Canada, by the way, has an economic edge in being willing to trade with one of the cities.

I wonder, are there more novels set in this particular alternate world?  It’s so richly detailed, it’s fascinating.

Did I mention this is amazing? Again, wow.

If you liked The City & The City, you’ll enjoy Miéville’s Kraken.

Thanks for the pointer. I wasn’t sure which one to take next. I was planning to read Perdido Station, but I need to clear a couple of books off my queue first. If there’s no library waiting list for Kraken, that’ll be perfect!
